WEXIT

At the Battle of Edington, an army of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex under Alfred the Great defeated the Great Heathen Army led by Guthrum on a date between 6 and 12 May AD 878, resulting in the Treaty of Wedmore later the same year. Primary sources locate the battle at "Ethandun" or "Ethandune", and until a scholarly consensus linked its location with the present-day Edington in Wiltshire it was known as the Battle of Ethandun, a name which continues to be used. Upon these fields the steel backbone of Wessex was forged.

One of the most decisive battles fought on our land. If Guthrum had won we would be speaking Danish today!
Chris: We damn well would Lisl. And we'd be eating Stegt flæsk med persillesovs og kartoffler. Often considered as the national dish of Denmark. God only knows what we'd be drinking..

Chris: Or we might be snacking on Aebleflæsk. One of the most traditional Danish foods, which consists of cured or salted pork belly which is fried with apples, sugar, and thyme - yuk!
Très interessant sujet ..
Chris: Thank you kindly Claudine

I caught sight of the Westbury White Horse on my way back after last week's Bristol outing. I think we still have a Great Heathen Army but I'm unsure who their leader is.
Chris: If it's the army of ignorance and stupidity then it's Field Marshall Farage you will be thinking about I suspect..
The great heathen army...now known as the Brexiteers grin
Chris: Great minds think alike, read my response to Lord Scumsville

Oh the dreams of a once mighty nation that might yet rise again.
Chris: Once we have smashed Mercia into the concrete Chad..
Nice white horse on the hillside.
Chris: Yes it is Brian
I recently found out there were more than one white horse, several in fact.
Chris: There are quite a number still Mary
