LOUGHWOOD: The Interior

A number of you asked me to show the interior of last Thurday's picture of Loughwood Meeting House.

So here it is, with its plain wooden box pews and simple lack of adornment.

C'est un très épuré.

Yes, extremely modest, but the Baptists are known for that lack of adornment. Sola scriptura.
Chris: Very much so Philine, modesty indeed. Non-Conformists, as Methodism etc etc was described, is a simple religion, unadorned with the fripperies of higher churches. Whether or not this state of affairs brings worshippers closer to the devine is a question open to discussion

But I recall Brian's words about a flower festival in his church, also cared for by his wife.
Chris: I cannot recall Brian and Maureen's denomination. But in all but the craziest sects flowers would be seen as acceptable

Quit different from the blingy Catholic churches. I like the pens to stop the congregation from escaping until they have heard all about hell and damnation.
Chris: And this can take many many hours
Thank you for showing this. Not a graven image in sight
Chris: They don't believe in them..

We have a similar building in an adjacent village to Halesworth … I have been inspired to go and photograph it in a similar manner and then post my results. Thankyou oh master ..I live in awe
Chris: And so you damn well should

Simple beauty. The angle of your photo captures it nicely.
Chris: Thank you kindly Beth
It certainly speaks austere.
Chris: Non frivolous
They don't come much more simple than this. Re Philine's comment Maureen was helping with some small decorations in some of our church windows for the Harvest weekend, it wasn't a full blown flower festival, indeed most of the decorations were items which were then taken to our local food bank. (Did you watch the chap walk part of the S.& D.on Channel 5 last night, if not it is worth catching up with.)
Chris: People have told me about the S&D walk Brian. I will try to watch it on catch-up
Very simply indeed - the complete antithesis of Catholic over-the-topism.
Chris: Very much so Tom, no didtractions
