Wonderful mood in this picture, love these skies and the glistening on the rock, I can almost hear the silence and the feel the cold.
Have a great day.....counting down wink....tonguetongue
Chris: Thank you Astrid. This was taken a couple of days ago when a friend & I walked up to here from the valley below

Not going to see a lot of sun today, then?

Nice, if murky, image, Chris.
Chris: I thought I'd try to capture the spirit of the shortest day Ray

Solstice is beautiful in the hills. Excellent shot and a lovely bench.
Chris: I am obliged to you sir: the bench sends its compliments

Now this one has shrunk, what is going on sad
Chris: Oh dear - it looks ok on my screen Tony
'ang on! This is actually a very good picture
Chris: Well it's actually MEANT to be a good 'un: the twiddling stick was used decisively (but sparingly) on this picture

Yes, today is solstice - a beautiful atmospheric photo with different shades of greyness -and some patches of blue and some reflections of sunrays- I like the perspective and the soft glints on the stone/hedge wall in the foreground-in our country there is much snow and all in white- and I could imagine a quite different vista on this day at 17:45 h! For you and your friend K. a great festive day!
Chris: Thanbk you Philine: we are both very much aware of the significance of the winter solstice with the prospect of lighter, brighter things to come. I handed my notice in at work last week and will retire three & a half years early on January 18th. Life will then be very different - but hopefully in a positive way
This looks like being the shortest day of the year Chris. The next step is now spring!
Chris: Indeed it is Richard: and this is something I eagerly anticipate
wonderful shot Chrissmile
Chris: Praise indeed from the master - thanks Tim!

Today is here a wonderful sunny day, not too cold, and the white snow is shining, the smoke from the chimneys creates some lovely sculptures - I want to take all this as a good sign for you (and for me and my dears, too)!
Chris: It does indeed Philine - thank you
Yes, it just gets better from now on Chris. Congratulations on your retirement.
Chris: I hope in every sense it does Janet: thank you
Cracking shot Chris.
Chris: Thank you Mike
Well that's the shortest day over ... phew!
Actually I like the sombre melancholia very much ... but where's 'blackdog'.

And finaly Chris I thought you weren't into monotone images. ;-) ;-)

Chris: I've made this an honourable exception to my rule Richard

A lovely reminder that today is the shortest day; already we have finished with the winter weather and normal summer weather (ie rain!) has returned. Very festive... not smile
Chris: Thank you Alan: I expect it will rain for months now!
this could be a view from the great wall in China
Chris: Heavens Rob - could it!
A lovely winter feel to this Chris, without the snow, you lucky person. I see you are going to retire early then, good luck, it is worth it if you can believe me.
Chris: I'm hoping it will be very much worth it: thank you Brian
I like this one, with lots atmospherics, very much, especially the light reflected on the top of the stones.
Chris: Thank you Chad: I had to twiddle this quite a bit
Nice view! Soft colours, great mood!
Chris: I'm glad you like it: thank you

what beautiful light - and a superb view
Chris: Thank you Paul. One good thing about the area in which I live is that there is no shortage of hills & valleys
