I suppose that is the entrance to the prison where they keep all who break these hilarious rules, Chris?
Chris: That is just what it looks like!
There must be a rash of this going around...
I disagree with Ray - I don't find it a "hilarious" rule to not be able to marry your relative... I find it common sense spreading of the gene pool! smile
Chris: As far as I'm concerned marrying your relatives is against human nature and the contents of the gene pool..

The population of some remote Dorset villages and those on the Isle of Wight are believed to be in breach of these rules. I assume the mesh gates are to keep out the birds.
Chris: I think a lot of places have this reputation, Norfolk for instance..
Il me semble que cela est bien clair ...interdit ...
Bonne journée
Chris: Very much so Claudine!

I understand the general sense of those rules although the grandmother might not give birth to any child anymore. In Austria there are some villages that were breaking those rules and you can find a village idiot. I would like to read the 'warning' board, I assume that there are some treasures behind the gates. A very interesting image thanks to your observation!
Chris: I suspect the notice is original and is a very old one Philine. I doubt if any young men feel inspired to have an intimate relationship with their grandmothers..
I am pleased you have cleared that up for us Chris. I would have thought marrying your grandmother would have been unusual
Chris: And strange, to say the least
I can't imagine many women wishing to marry their grandfathers!
Chris: Heavens no!

I think some of the parents of my colleagues did not read this 'Thou shalt not' sign.... shhhhhh don't tell them I said so....
Chris: Hahaha!!
You have to have these rules, otherwise all we will hear is banjo's...
Chris: Quite Frank
There are some nations in this world of ours where these rules don't seem to apply, I will say no more than that.
Chris: Tank you Brian
I don't think I have ever been instructed who not to marry though perhaps it is because I did not show interest in marrying my grandfather, father or son. How strange!
Chris: Quite important rules for primitive times

My father had an Uncle Gordon who used to liven up boring services in Sherborne Abbey by showing my Dad this list. I wish I'd met him (my Great Uncle) - he was Dad's favourite and sounded like a real character.
Chris: Maybe you - in part - have taken after him Penny?
Warning--Legalism Ahead...
Chris: So slow down and obey everything!
