That gorgeous mushroom is being too be munched.
Chris: Is it??
Very feathery looking.
Chris: Lovely isn't it Jacquelyn
I like the way they seem to thrust up from nowhere Tiff. I too would not trust myself with gathering and eating these things.
Chris: If in doubt Chad, get somebody else to do it

a wonderful image - you must have lain on the ground to take this photo. This fungus should not be eaten. Three refugees died in Münster after having eaten them.
Chris: OMG - that's terrible Philine but on this occasion I would trust the word of my dear friend Lisl

You can eat that one, Chris, whilst fresh like this - once the "ink" starts to run, beware. It is a Shaggy Inkcap
Chris: I had a feeling it might be Lisl

Quite right; I would not even touch them. I assume Man learnt the hard way what was OK to eat and what was best avoided.
Chris: I would only eat these things if assured by an expert that to do so was fine

Très joli champignon blanc.
Chris: Nice isn't it Martine
Shaggy Manes Are an edible mushoom when young but has cautions. i love the look of them. One of my favorite to photograph.
Chris: Mine too Mary: thanks
I have a friend who is an expert on what is edible and wouldn't risk anything without his sort of knowledge
Chris: A sensible stance IMHO
I do believe it's a shaggy inkcap Chris. We had a glut of these near us once and shaggy inkcap soup was quite often on the menu.
Chris: I have heard it tastes good Janet

I always love the 'fungus season'..... However I buy the fungus in the shop... Don't want to think I can fly after eating some from the wild.......
Chris: That is sensible Astrid
They are very impressive but somehow or other I learnt years ago never to consider eating one of these.
Chris: Once bitten twice shy Brian?

Lovely picture Chris - you have caught it at its best
Chris: Photographically I couldn't resist it Anne
I believe that this is the shaggy ink-cap - edible, but best when young.
Chris: Much obliged to you Tom
I will stick to Morrison's finest, this is a bit exotic for me
Chris: Yes - nothing wrong with Morrison's finest Martin..

It's a possible eater ... but I would steer clear of anything other than field mushrooms.

Good to see it though.
Chris: I am obliged to you Sir!
never seen one that looked like that...
Chris: This isn't in its finished state Larry
Yes you do! This is a beauty, Chris!
Chris: Thank you kindly Elizabeth
