Not a class of locomotive I'm heard of, so new to me; LNER I've learnt and only two years older than me. I'm pleased that steam has been allowed back on the rails after the West Coast Railway issue.
Chris: There were a lot of these B1s built after WW2, they were the LNER equivalent to GW Halls. We used to get them coming from the north to Bristol sometimes, I saw several over the years. I also remember one at Bath Green Park
According to my old Ian Allen combined volume 61306 was not named and Mayflower was 61379. Still what's in a name? She is a handsome locomotive
Chris: Quite so. I expect the original Mayflower went to the knacker's yard
Not one that I recall seeing on the LNER smile
Chris: There were HUNDREDS of them Tom but painted black
a great shot... it seems like Bath is a magnetic attraction...
Chris: I am stuck to it Larry
Magnificent machine, almost every train I travelled on when I was a boy was hauled by a B1, no wonder they are among my favourite of locos.
