photoblog image OH DEAR..

OH DEAR..

It wasn't allowed to puff...puff...puff in the hot weather in case hot sparks set the countryside alight.

So ignomy, in the form of a diesel locomotive, was attached to pull it all along....

Oh well....

'Ignomy', a new word to me - what a long train!
Chris: For tourists on Sundays Philine. Bristol to Kingswear..
Oh wow, Chris. A small price to pay to not set your country on fire during these boisterous Brexit days?!
Chris: Boisterous isn't the word for it Ginnie

Chaotic perhaps..

Somebody was awake and made the choice to get "the diesel" out....smart thinking and great timing from you to "catch" the train in time.
Chris: I had to Google when it was due to pass my local bridge Astrid

Alas, even the heritage railways were forced to do something similar. The Ffestiniog Railway has oil-fired steam locos that they use in periods of high fire risk. Still not the same, though.

We saw a steam train on the Settle & Carlisle Railway on Sunday. It was double-header but we were too far away to make out the locos. It was on the downhill side of the line towards Appleby so little smoke.
Chris: Hopefully the dry season is over now and we can look forward to more chuffing and puffing. If you will excuse the technical language..

team effort
Chris: Quite..
That is a disappointment, but as you say: at least it ran smile
Chris: People pay a lot to travel behind steam, so I expect they were half mollified
That was a bit of a let down
Chris: Indeed but at least it ran

It must be very dry, to permit a diesel solution.
Chris: It was so for a few weeks Louis
From the customers point of view at least the train still ran, but not the same as being hauled by a lone 'streak'.
Chris: Not at all Brian. It ran last weekend without diesel assistance..
This has been quite a common problem this year I think
Chris: It certainly has. Of course in the old days BR used to cut the lineside vegetation back quite severely
it takes away the joy of riding on a steam locomotive Chris... this is a great photo with a lot of depth....petersmile
Chris: Thank you kindly Peter
De bonnes precautions surement !
Chris: Yes indeed Claudine
I would want my money back.
Chris: Maybe people did..
