... and this image taken before 'the day' suggests the essential moment very nicely.

In my early days I always thought good, the daylight time will be so much longer by the end of Christmas ... but how wrong I was. The darkness of January tends to be my most dismal month
Chris: After the festivities we have to fortify ourselves against the gloom of Jan/Feb, but we live in the sure and certain knowledge that the day length is increasing, and that should be able to keep us going..

This photo could make my day - really wonderful (and it is the only one blog I comment today) .
Chris: I am honoured Philine
It is indeed. Now the daylight hours will start to increase but I am inclined to agree with comrade Trim that January can be the most dismal of months. However, a fine sunny January day is a joy
Chris: It's the thought in the back of my head that tells me things are improving rather that getting darker that keeps me going
Perfect shot for this special day
Chris: Thank you kindly Mary

Turn, turn, turn...

The wheel goes round again.

Give the tree a hug from me!
Chris: It deserves it..
Strangely the mornings continue to get slightly darker for a while, this item on the BBC News website today explains http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-30549149
Chris: Odd isn't it
So it is - the shortest day, optimism from now on! Perhaps we should celebrate Yule instead of Christmas smile
Chris: I always celebrate both Tom

The tree doesn't care, Chris.
Chris: It may not care but something starts to happen to it

Now I thought the same as you that Sundaty was the Winter Solstice but they are marking it at Stonehenge today.
