Beautiful comp, Chris - I love the focus on the foreground flowers.
WHY would they remove the pews????
Chris: To give more space Elizabeth, the pews are probably only Victorian

Grab one of those obsolete pews, Chris...take it home for company for ole Benchy.
Chris: Good advice. I might buy 'em all and make a giant sculpture of Bill Phillips in the garden to frighten the neighbours

BTW...when will the pews be removed?
Chris: This year sometime
Some might say that pews are a way of controlling the congregation. Groups of single chairs can be arranged in a variety of less formal smaller groups. Yes a smaller pew in the back garden sounds rather aesthetically pleasing.
Chris: I am pleased that you have entered into the spirit of pewidge and are prepared to consider life beyond this current state of affairs

I expect there is much gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands over the decision to remove the pews. I expect some people will vow never to cross the threshold again. Nice flowery things.
Chris: Yes quite. In my view removing the pews opens the place up for further possibilities

What a beautiful bunch of vroses in the basket. It is a pity that the pews will be removed, but I understand Richard's point.
Chris: I am in favour of removing them Philine, doing so allows for greater flexibility
At last your chance for a new bench
Chris: I don't think so..
I can't recall seeing pews in the most recent Cathedrals/Abbeys I've been in, and of course many churches have done away with them, it does allow the main area to be used for a lot of things other than straightforward worship. The flower arrangement is rather nice, Maureen loves doing that sort of thing, she does the ones at our church quite often.
Chris: I'm sure she is very clever at it too Brian
Great shot...
Chris: Thanks Larry
Removing pews is a big mistake - churches look lost without them - it's vandalism.
Chris: There are many who object Tom

I'm a bit trad and like pews. If they replaced them with tasteful wooden chairs I wouldn't mind, but it's usually horrible metal and plastic ones - often with upholstery!! The whole point of a pew is to make you as uncomfortable as possible so you ask God for forgiveness!! grin
Beautiful flowers close-up, they seem to be exempt from the environment
