Look at that stand of wonderful bespoke tools...boiler rakes and such...
Chris: Some of these things, I think, are called prickers. When the fire bars become solid with ash & clinker the lucky fireman had to use one of these things to get rid of it and supply the draught needed to continuing effective steaming. Imagine doing something like THAT for a living..

The apprentice. "Then this bit goes here, and you turn this bit round and it slots in there"
Chris: I'm glad I wasn't an apprentice Chad, life would have been dominated by nuts 'n' bolts
Better than working in a call centre
Chris: Anything is better than that..

I bet yours hasn't got a face like blackpig's
Chris: When I come to power Lisl turning proper locomotives into toys for kiddies will become an offence carrying the gravest consequences

Splendid! Well done tool the volunteers that do such jobs. They bring pleasure to many - including me. Good t see that such skills are being passed in to the next generation.

On each of our three days we passed through Levisham station on the North York Moors Railway. Our break was co0incidental with their Autumn Gala and a beer festival. My chums weren't convinced that it was co-inciental.
Chris: How nice. I hope you took a few images for us all (me) to enjoy..
Nice shot Chris, good to see young fokks getting involved.
Chris: Yes that is a very good thing Brian

Learn by watching ... and don't ask questions
Chris: I'm watching you, and I have plenty of questions to ask!
