Martine

Je trouve bizarre cette sculpture.
Chris
: It is a war memorial Martine. It commemorates the Welsh military dead of the First World War, the red dragon being a Welsh national symbol

Watch it when they snore--I hear it gets fiery.
Chris
: Should I get one as a pet Larry?

Haha - very bizarre, but he can hear you, be cautious of your words!
Chris
: This seemingly odd statue has a rather touching and sober explanation Philine: see my reply to Martine

That is an odd War Memorial
Chris
: Quite touching I thought Lisl..

I was amazed to learn that its a war memorial. Something that looks to be a fun marking such a tragedy. I hope that the dragon is merely sleeping and is keeping half an ear open in case of approaching trouble.
Chris
: I think that might be the idea
Ray
Not in United States

That is a very likable thing, Chris.
Chris
: I thought so too Ray, dignified as well

I hope you tip-toed along this dragon, you don't want to wake up this fella, only if you want to light you cigarette.......and you don't smoke.....
Chris
: I smoulder sometimes, that's all..
Mary MacADNski

I too am amazed that is a war memorial. They are usually quite stuffy.
Chris
: The reason is the red dragon is the national symbol of Wales, where this was taken
Tom Wilson
United Kingdom

Love it! And how very unusual for a war memorial!
Chris
: Very appropriate I thought Tom, dignified too
Anne

Who would have guessed that this is a war memorial. How unusual.
Chris
: Isn't it wonderful! So often memorials celebrating - I don't think that is the right word - the Great War are stuffy and full of imperialism
Bill Phillips
Great Britain (UK)

A war memorial I see folk are saying. A welsh one I assume
Chris
: Yes indeed, at Presteign
Brian Walbey

I'm glad you explained what this actually is, thanks for that.
Chris
: A pleasure Brian

Chris
